HARTFORD, CONN (WTIC Radio)-Connecticut correction officers are looking for safer working conditions and better pay.
Union officials said sanctions should be modified for dangerous behavior by inmates.
Sherine Bailey, a 15-year veteran, said comprehensive in-service training is also necessary.
Others said more staff is needed because the job is stressful and takes its toll inside the facility and on families.
One union official called corrections the toughest beat in Connecticut.
Another official called out lawmakers for even failing to respond to two attempted murder attempts on staff.
A measure before lawmakers this session would provide guards a two and half percent pay increase.
Before the press conference the guards rallied at the State Capitol.
