HARTFORD, CONN (WTIC Radio)-Citing the video showing ballot box stuffing during the Bridgeport election last September,
General Assembly Republicans are calling for reform, arguing integrity needs to return to the process.
The Republicans unveiled proposals at a press conference. They include the prevention of unsolicited absentee ballots, updating voter
rolls and voter roll audits, requiring stronger identification for absentee ballot envelopes and a mandatory one-year prison term for those convicted of election fraud.
Senate Republican Leader Stephen Harding responding to having a video outside ballot boxes said it won't do anything. "No one was monitoring the camera(in Bridgeport).
A campaign happened to leak it out."
Stamford State Representative Matt Blumenthal chairs the Government Administration and Elections Committee. He said it has submitted "real and robust" legislation.
As for the video component, Blumenthal said the measure allows town clerks and other election officials to trace any wrongdoing and to determine if and how it affected any election.
