A 5% tuition increase for schools that are part of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system has been approved by the Board of Regents.
The CSCU board, which sets school policies and tuition, readily approved the increase on Thursday. One board member defended the move, saying it is necessary to address the CSCU's budget shortfall of $140 million.
The increase will mean an additional $300 every semester at the state schools, while at state community colleges, tuitions will increase $120 per semester.
