DANIELSON, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ A Danielson man has pleaded guilty to defrauding the U.S. Postal Service.
Federal prosecutors say Abilio Pedroso, 41, of Danielson, insured and sent hundreds of packages to unsuspecting people he didn't know from June 2018 to August 2019. He then claimed the packages were missing or lost.
The packages were insured for dollar amounts beyond what the packages were actually worth.
For example, Pedroso purported the contents of the packages to be valuables, such as watches and iPads, but actually mailed items of little value, such as DVDs and cell phone chargers.
More than 240 packages were mailed resulting in Pedroso stealing $66,640.43 through this scheme.
Pedroso faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
A sentencing date has not been set.
