New Britain, Conn./WTIC Radio - A fire in a dorm on the campus of Central Connecticut State University has displaced 60 students.

University officials say there were no injuries and the sprinkler system kicked in to help contain the fire until firefighters arrived.

They were able to extinguish the blaze, which broke out around 6:00 p.m. on the first floor.

Officials say the fire occurred in the F. Don James residence hall, one of the oldest on campus.

“The university is grateful everyone is safe.  The students did exactly what they should in a situation like this and we are working on making them comfortable in a new space,” said university president Dr. Zulma Toro.

The state fire marshal is investigating.

For now, the displaced students are headed to Memorial Hall and the student center as the university determines temporary housing.
