Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Tuesday was the debut of early voting in Connecticut, ahead of next week's presidential primary.

“This is a historic moment for Connecticut,” said Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas. “We now have so many more opportunities for people to go out and vote. If you have a last-minute emergency or a childcare issue, you no longer have to worry. You can have your say, your day.”

As of 4:00 p.m. on Tueday, nearly 5,000 Democrats and Republicans had cast a ballot on the first day of early voting.

Thomas, who cast her ballot in her home city of Norwalk, said her office had not received any reports of any systemic or legal issues in municipalities.

Early voting will continue on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

In the last presidential primary in Connecticut in 2020, turnout was just over 30%.
