For starters, the building on Main Street will be closed by week's end.

Most municipal offices will move temporarily to the Community Cultural Center on Chapman Place.

The town's clerk's office will move to a trailer outside town hall.

Mayor Michael Walsh says the building, which is 86 years old, is undergoing an extensive renovation.

"A lot of our mechanical equipment, whether that's electric, plumbing, the roof or HVAC are all decades beyond their useful life", said Walsh.

The mayor says the plan is to be back in town hall by January of 2024.

The total cost of the rehab is pegged at about $21.6 million.
