WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Eastern Connecticut State University officially inaugurates its seventh President on Friday.
Dr. Karim Ismaili began his tenure at Eastern in August of 2024, replacing now-retired President Elsa Nunez, who had led the University for 18 years.
The inaugural events include an invite-only investiture ceremony at 11 a.m. at the campus' Fine Arts Instructional Center, with a ceremony and reception at the student center, complete with a community group photo.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Ismaili served as Executive Vice President and Provost at Bridgewater State University (BSU) in Massachusetts.
He has also held academic and administrative roles at Radford University (VA), St. John’s University (NY), Kennesaw State University (GA), and at Toronto Metropolitan University (Ontario).
Earlier in his career, Dr. Ismaili was a policy and research advisor on criminal justice issues in the Government of Canada. He also teaches a course on the subject at Eastern.
