Electrical fire draws evacuations in Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - An underground electrical fire prompted the evacuation of a transitional housing program in Hartford Monday night.

Firefighters responded to the scene on Washington Street around 11 p.m. to find that the fire had extended to the basement of the program at 119 Washington Street. Heavy smoke was showing from several manholes.

Thirty-eight people were evacuated, said authorities. The Department of Correction relocated affected residents.

Eversource and Connecticut Natural Gas also responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.
