NEW HAVEN, CONN.(WTIC Radio)-More than six million dollars will be used to improve the stewardship of Long Island Sound, with advocates saying progress has been made but efforts are vital because it's also a $7 billion economic driver.
Senator Richard Blumenthal said an effort has already been made to decrease sewage and pollutants.
Tracy Babbidge, Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, said the measure of oxygen and its impact on the Sound has improved sixty percent because of continuing efforts.
Senator Blumenthal said fifteen separate sites will see "tangible, major benefits on ecosystems, habitats, resilience and flooding."
Blumenthal hopes a $65 million dollar measure for water quality and shore restoration also gains approval.
