Shelton, Conn./WTIC Radio - Fire destroyed a building at an historic golf club in Shelton on Friday.

Crews were called to the scene late in the evening to what they say was a fully involved structure fire on Wooster Street.

When they arrived, firefighters found flames shooting through the roof of a building at the Highland Golf Club.

There was no one inside at the time and no injuries were reported.

WFSB reports several towns lent mutual aid including Monroe and Derby.

The assistant fire chief says embers from that blaze helped to spark smaller brush fires due to the dry and breezy conditions that have persisted for months.

On its website, the club bills itself as "one of the longest continually operating private golf clubs in Connecticut."

The club was set to celebrate its 125th anniversary next year.
