ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A former Connecticut State Police Trooper is charged in a workers compensation fraud case.

Jose Campos, 32, of Winsted, turned himself in to at the Rocky Hill Police Department on Tuesday. Inspectors from the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney charged him with first-degree larceny charge.

State prosecutors say he misrepresented facts concerning injuries he claimed happened at headquarters in Middletown when he was knocked to the ground when a bathroom door hit him, leaving him to be struck by others who tried to enter the bathroom.

Witnesses claimed otherwise, as Campos was placed on temporary total disability status.

He received $8,341 in workers compensation wage replacement benefits.

If convicted, Campos faces 1-10 years in prison.

Bond is $15,000.
