New Britain, Conn./WTIC Radio - A flood mitigation project for New Britain is receiving funding on several fronts.
In addition, city residents in the Allen Street area who, for over a decade, have seen home and street flooding during heavy rain, will receive financial support for money they've shelled out for repairs.
On Wednesday, Mayor Bobby Sanchez, Governor Lamont and others were on hand to announce $6.9 million in state bonding for stormwater system upgrades, along with water and sewer line replacement and road repairs.
In addition, $6 million in local grants and about $1 million in federal dollars will help fund the project.
A New Britain Homeowner Flood Compensation Program will be funded by $250,000 secured by the city's delegation to Hartford.
"Fixing the future isn't enough for families who have already paid for flood damage," Sanchez said. "This program gets relief directly into the hands of the people who need it."
