Greenwich, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-A mother has been arrested for the homicide of her infant son found in a garbage truck that just emptied a dumpster 35 years ago, according to Greenwich Police.
The dumpster was behind the apartment building at 27 Havemeyer Place where Janita M. Phillips, 62, lived with her son, police said.

The male child was discovered May 16, 1986.

Phillips was living in Lake Mercy Florida. When Police interviewed her in September, she admitted she was the child's mother and that she caused his death.
In the initial investigation police said they collected multiple pieces of evidence, including items soaked with blood, but they couldn't identify the child's killer.

Newly available forensic testing linked physical evidence to the mother, police said.

The Chief Medical Examiner determined the child was strangled, ruling the case a homicide.

Phillips surrendered to Greenwich Police today. She was arrested, charged with a single count of murder, processed and transported to Stamford Court for arraignment today.
