Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The legislature's Judiciary Committee has passed a bill that aims to toughen gun laws in Connecticut.
Earlier this year, Governor Lamont put forth a number of proposals looking to reduce gun violence.
Among the items in the bill: a ban on carrying firearms in public places like parks while continuing to allow concealed carry in certain areas with a permit.
Also, limiting gun purchases to one a month and requiring a 10-day waiting period to purchase a gun.
A GOP proposal to split the bill into two parts got a thumbs down from committee co-chair, Bridgeport Democrat Steve Stafstrom.
"Both increased enforcement and closing loopholes in our existing firearm regulatory scheme is necessary in order to address gun violence in our state", said Stafstrom.
The bill now heads to the full House for consideration.
