Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - A woman died after fire broke out this morning on Francis Avenue in Hartford.
Firefighters say they received the call around 7:30 a.m. that a mixed use structure was on fire.
Chief Rodney Barco said the building's layout, which looked to include two apartments that were not part of the original construction, hampered their efforts.
Barco said conditions were less than ideal when they arrived.
"There was a large volume of fire coming from the front window and the side windows", Barco said.
He said that made entry difficult and there was zero visibility due to the smoke condition.
Barco said they had to fight the bulk of the fire from the outside.
There is no word yet on a cause.
