Hartford mayor taps acting police chief

Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Hartford has a new acting chief of police.

Assistant Chief Kenny Howell will assume that role while a permanent chief is sought.

Chief Jason Thody announced his retirement earlier this year.

Howell brings 33 years experience in law enforcement.

He was chief of police in Millbury, Massachusetts before coming to Hartford.

Howell has also worked in law enforcement in New Haven.

Currently, Howell heads the department's patrol operations, administrative services, professional standards, and investigative services.
