HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The City of Hartford has announced that its indoor mask mandate will not be extended due to a steady decline in COVID-19 positivity numbers in recent weeks.

The mandate, which was reinstated at the beginning of January, will expire at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday.

"I told our community that this would be a time-limited measure because of the extraordinary surge, and as we begin to move past the omicron wave, I think it's important to demonstrate that we take that commitment seriously," Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said in a written statement.

Bronin encouraged all residents, however, to continue wearing masks while indoors and when around strangers.

He also reminded residents that businesses have the right to require patrons to wear masks.

On Monday, Connecticut recorded a COVID-19 daily positivity rate of 7.33% which is down from the 9.73% that the state reported on Friday.
