Following approval from the New Haven Board of Alders, New Haven veteran police officer Karl Jacobson has been sworn-in as permanent Police Chief.

Jacobson pledged  to support  his  staff and for the  department  to operate under  full transparency serving the  community.

He's a fifteen year veteran of the department.  Previously he spent nine years on the East Providence Police Department. He hold's a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven.

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker described Jacobson as someone "who has steady hands, a thoughtful mind an an open heart."

Jacobson assumes control of a department facing criticism for a recent incident where a suspect being transported became paralyzed.
