New York, NY/WTIC Radio - UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley has been named the Big East Coach of the Year.

He becomes the second UConn men's coach to be so honored, joining Hall of Famer Jim Calhoun, who won the award four times.

In addition, Tristen Newton and Cam Spencer were named to the All Big East First Team.

The 51-year-old Hurley led the Huskies to a 28-3 record this season, including 18-2 in the Big East.

The 18 conference wins are the most in Big East history.

Newton averaged a team-leading 15 points per game, while Spencer was second tallying 14.7 per game.

The defending national champions are gearing up for their first game in the Big East tournament at noon Thursday at Madison Square Garden.
