BRISTOL, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Connecticut Inspector General is justifying a Bristol officer's gunfire directed at a woman who walked into the city's police department in October 2023 and began shooting up the lobby.

Officer Spencer Boisvert is being justified for his shooting twice at Suzanne Laprise in a bid to stop her from shooting within the department lobby around 11:38 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

Investigators say Laprise, who had gotten into a fight with her boyfriend before going to drink at a bar before going to the Bristol Police Department, walked into the department holding a handgun to her head. She began banging her hands and the gun on department lobby window about a dozen times before she fired at the windows, which did not penetrate due to bulletproof glass.

Officer Boisvert was positioned in the interior of the police department along a hallway behind a door to the right of glass windows. He could see Laprise from his position. He fired two shots from his duty pistol at Laprise. Neither shot penetrated the window in the door.

Moments later, during a time when Laprise put her gun down, officers rushed out of the left door, subdued Laprise with a Taser, and placed her under arrest.

The Inspector General, in justifying Officer Boisvert, says Laprise, who fired a total of five shots, posed a clear and deadly threat to officers and members of the public.
