New Britain, Conn./WTIC Radio - The state Office of Inspector General has released police body cam footage of an officer involved shooting last week in New Britain.

It was around 3:00 p.m. June 24 when police were called to investigate a report of shots fired on Union Street.


Minutes later, police received a 911 call about a pair of masked individuals acting suspiciously near a TD Bank branch on Main Street.

Officers pursued the suspects on foot and bicycle several officers and a plainclothes detective.

The chase ended at 1 Herald Square when the inspector general says a suspect fired at the detective, who then returned fire.

The suspect, 17, was struck several times, was rendered aid by officers and taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery.

He is expected to survive.

The teen faces a number of charges, including criminal attempt at assault and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

A second male suspect was arrested and found to be in possession of a handgun with a high capacity magazine.

Ossain Gayle, 18, of New Britain, was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, interfering with police and other offenses.
