In Connecticut, Indigenous People's Day was marked with a celebration in Waterbury.
It was hosted by the North End Cooperative, a community group that said it was marking the day in part because of "how much things have changed since Columbus" sailed to the Western Hemisphere.
This was the Cooperative's first celebration of Indigenous People's day. The group's goal is to host the event every year.
It'll be an opportunity, says group leader K.C. Britt, to both pay homage to native people and re-discover their traditions.
