HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Governor Lamont has signed the bill that extends his emergency powers in the pandemic through May 20 into law.
His signature on Wednesday comes a day after democrats in the State Senate passed the measure along party lines, 24 to 10.
Democrats side with the Governor on the issue, pointing to changing federal guidance and COVID variants. Republicans argue Lamont's executive orders served a purpose but, generally, should include checks-and-balances and input from state republicans.
Also on Wednesday, the Governor signed three other bills. One of them, "An Act Concerning the Provision of Outdoor Food and Beverage Service by Restaurants," allow restaurants to leapfrog over certain zoning and business restrictions to expand outdoor dining in the pandemic.
