Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Governor Lamont has signed a measure into law cracking down on so-called street takeovers.

The new law increases penalties and fines against those who take part in, organize or are even spectators of reckless driving.

Such behavior, Lamont says, can result in a two-year suspension of one's drivers license after three or more violations.

The new law also gives the freedom to municipalities to adopt their own ordinances against street takeovers as they see fit.

And the bill gives cities and towns the power to destroy ATVs, dirt bikes, and mini-bikes that are seized during takeovers.
