Wethersfield, Conn./WTIC - A man accused of drowning his mother last month in New Milford has died in prison.
The state Department of Correction says Eric Meagan, 34, was found in his cell at the Garner Correctional Institution just before 3:30 Monday afternoon.
Officials say Meagan had a ligature tied to his neck.
Correction and medical staff initiated life saving measures but Meagan was pronounced dead at 3:52 p.m.
Meagan was being held on a murder charge in connection with the death of his mother Victoria Palmer, 56, of New Milford on June 6.
Meagan told police at the time of his arrest that he had to kill his mother to "make the demons stop."
