HAMDEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Hamden Police are investigating a crash between car that's allegedly tied to mail theft and a CT Transit bus.
Preliminary investigation finds the suspect vehicle turned in front of the bus on Whitney Avenue from Huntington Circle, around 10 a.m. Monday, after failing to stop at a stop sign. The occupants of the car were reportedly stealing mail from mailboxes before the collision.
The driver of the car was seriously injured and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Two passengers who were in the car fled the scene and were apprehended a short time later with help from Cheshire Police. One of those two passengers was hospitalized at Yale-New Haven Hospital with minor injuries.
The bus driver was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
There were two passengers on the bus with no reported injuries.
Police arrested Ali Mohamad Sanoh, 21, of Bronx, New York, and charged Sanoh with interfering with police and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree. Sanoh was held on a $25,000 bond and is set to appear in court on 10/25/2021 at Meriden Superior Court.
The identity of the driver and second passenger of the suspect vehicle are still under investigation.
Additional arrests are expected.
