New Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - The man accused of shooting a Yale grad student to death three years ago in New Haven was sentenced today.

Qinxuan Pan gets 35 years behind bars.

Pan, a former MIT student, shot Kevin Jiang outside his car not far from campus in February of 2021.

Prosecutors say on the day he killed the 26-year-old Jiang, Pan stole a car in Massachusetts and came to Connecticut to carry out the murder.

He then led authorities on a months long search before he was finally captured by U.S. marshals in Alabama.

Jiang's fiance was an MIT graduate but authorties didn't say if there was any connection among the three.

Pan copped a plea back in February.

"Today, I would like to extend my condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Jiang who have endured such an unimaginable loss due to this senseless crime,” state’s attorney John Doyle, Jr. said.
