Meriden, Conn./WTIC Radio - Police in Meriden are investigating after a student brought a gun to school this week.

Investigators say they learned Thursday from a parent the Washington Middle School student brought the firearm to school on Tuesday.
An invesigation was launched by police and school staff.
The student admitted to bringing the gun, police said, originally thought to be a BB gun.
Police said the parents were cooperative and indicated the student had discovered the key to the safe where the gun was kept locked and took it without consent of the parents, who are licensed gun owners.
There was no ammunition in the gun.
The child has been referred to juvenile court.
Meriden police say they will have an increased presence at the school Friday to alleviate any fears.
