Vernon, Conn./WTIC Radio - Police in Vernon rescued a child who went missing early Wednesday morning.
Police were contacted around 7:00 a.m. on a report of the missing eight-year-old autistic child from the Sleeping Giant Apartments on Hartford Turnpike.
Police say it appears as if the child had been missing for several hours before the parents made the discovery and called them.
The search was hampered somewhat due the the heavy rain at the time, say police.
Eventually, the child was found in a swampy area near the home.
That's when police navigated through waist deep mud to bring the child to safety.
The youngster was checked out by EMS but did not require hospitalization and was brought home.
