NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ New Britain High School students are returning to the classroom for half-days of in-person learning on Thursday and Friday.
The school initially decided that Wednesday through Friday would have been remote learning days. The decision was made over recent violence in the school, according to Mayor Erin Stewart's office.
The transition on Wednesday allowed administrators and other key city officials to gather to discuss consequences and support services for students who are struggling to acclimate back to school, according to NBHS Principal Damon Pearce.
The Connecticut Department of Education said in a written statement on Wednesday the transition to remote learning was "...in conflict with State guidance that does not recommend that they move to full remote learning."
New Britain High School officials expect a return to full days of learning on Monday, September 27, 2021.
