NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ New Haven Police are investigating a homicide on Dixwell Avenue.
Mayor Justin Elicker's office says it happened around 1 p.m. Tuesday on Dixwell Avenue near the Hamden town line.
This marks the city’s 18th homicide of the year.
"This loss of life is tragic,” says Mayor Elicker in the press release. “My heart goes out to the family and loved ones of the victim. Combating violence in our city and keeping the residents of New Haven safe continues to be my top priority.”
On Monday, the Board of Alders’ Finance Committee heard a proposal from the Elicker Administration to create a new city department, the Department of Community Resilience, which features an office of violence prevention.
City police have not released any other details about the shooting, yet.
