New Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - New Haven police are putting out a warning regarding scam calls by those posing as police officers.

The department says scammers are using the real names of NHPD officers and are programming their call ID to make it appear as if the call is originating from police headquarters.

The caller tells the unsuspecting recipient they have a failure to appear warrant and if they don't pay up, police will respond immediately to arrest them.

Investigators say if residents receive such a call, they should hang up and contact police at the non-emergency number, 203-946-6316 to verify if the call is legitimate.
