This scam has been taking place in downtown Stamford. Victimized are older Hispanic women while they use ATM's.
As police describe it, the suspect sometimes tries to get the victims to buy phony winning lottery tickets. That approach varies.
But police say what always happens is that the suspects take the victims money or jewelry in exchange for a bag they claim to be
stuffed with cash. The bag, say police, ends up being filled with paper and rocks.
