New London, Conn./WTIC Radio - A Bronx, New York man is facing charges he scammed an elderly couple in Preston out of thousands of dollars.
State troopers say Jose Perezclark, 37, faces charges of larceny and telephone fraud.
Police say they launched an investigation into Perezclark and his associates who told the couple their daughter was under arrest and needed money for bond following a fatal accident for which she was at fault.
Perezclark was arrested earlier this year and accused of interfering with police and attempted larceny.
That's when police say they secured a search and seizure warrant, at which point the victim's stolen money, $12,500, was recovered.
Perezclark is free on $100,000 bond and is due in court August 16.
State police say the stolen money will eventually be returned to the couple in the near future.
