NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Newtown Police say a man who disappeared from town, in 2013, assumed a new name and has been found dead in New York.

Robert Hoagland was last seen at a gas station in Newtown on July 28, 2013. The then-50-year-old was reported missing the following day after he failed to pick up a family member from the airport. Officers found the family cars, Hoagland's wallet, medication, and cell phone at the family home.

Reported sightings during a nationwide manhunt over the last 10 years failed to lead to Hoagland.

Nearly 10 years later, police responded to a residence in Rock Hill, New York on the report of an untimely death. Initially, officers were not able to identify the man but found papers indicating the name Robert Hoagland.

Detectives learned he had been living in Sullivan County in New York since November of 2013 under the name "Richard King."

Robert Hoagland's remains were taken to the Sullivan County Coroner for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of his death. However, there were no signs of foul play, according to Newtown Police.

Newtown Police say there is no criminal aspect to the disappearance.
