(WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police determine it does not appear a break-in happened at a ballot storage facility in the town of Fairfield.
Thursday, Fairfield Police were alerted to a possible break-in at a facility in town where ballots are being stored ahead of a recount scheduled for next Tuesday.
Democrat Bill Gerber leads Republican incumbent Brenda Kupchick by 42 votes in the race for the town's first selectman.
Fairfield Police Chief Robert Kalamaras contacted the State's Attorney's Office of the Judicial District of Fairfield to seek their assistance in an investigation.
State Police say, in an update Friday morning, there were no compromised entry points into the building and that the damage on a window screen did not appear to be the result of criminal activity.
The State Elections Enforcement Commission was notified of the incident and elected local officials, Registrars of Voters, members of the Fairfield Police Department and the State’s Attorney’s office were present at the scene during the investigation.
