WILLINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police box a New York man in on the highway to take him into custody after allegedly speeding over 45 miles per hour over the speed limit in Willington.

Troopers were monitoring traffic around 3:18 p.m. Tuesday when they noticed a white GMC SUV with Pennsylvania registration traveling at a high speed near Exit 73 in Union.

State Police say the driver, later identified as Gagan Khandate, 31, of New York, NY, was going 94 MPH in a zone posed at 65 MPH.

The trooper tried to stop Khandate but he accelerated to 110 MPH instead. The trooper stopped the pursuit out of the interest of public safety.

However, other troopers further down the highway near Exit 69 collaborated to box in the vehicle Khandate was driving, bringing him to a stop.

Khandate is being charged with reckless driving and disobeying the signal of an officer. His bond is $1,000.
