(WTIC Radio) - A partial dam breach leads to a significant amount of flooding and mandatory evacuations along the Yantic River in Bozrah and central New London county.
The partial breach occurred around 7 a.m., when the Fitchville Pond Dam apparently couldn't withstand pressure from overnight floodwaters.
Since the partial breach, significant flooding has been reported in Bozrah and cities and towns in central New London county, including Norwich.
The Norwich Public Utilities have shut off their Bean Hill Substation in an attempt to prevent any possible or further damage from impacting their system along the Yantic River, off West Town Street in Norwich. The shut off has resulted in some 5,000 power outages among their customers.
The power restoration time is not clear, as it depends on when the flooding along the Yantic River recedes and when NPU can evaluate its substation.
Around 11:30 a.m., the CT Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security issued a mandatory evacuation for those who are immediately along the Yantic River between the Norwich-Bozrah line and Backus Hospital.
The CT DEEP and CT DEMHS are investigating the partial dam breach.
