Plainville student charged in Chromebook fire

Plainville, Conn./WTIC Radio - A Plainville middle schooler could face charges after police say the juvenile intentionally caused a laptop to smoke, forcing the school to evacuate.

The incident at Plainville Middle School is being looked at as part of a social media trend that sees students forcing objects into Chromebook devices so they short circuit and smoke.

The incident occurred around 10:15, causing smoke alarms to activate.

The student complained of smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospistal for treatment.

There were no other injuries.

School was back in session in less than an hour.

The case has been referred to juvenile court.
