
Branford, Conn./WTIC Radio - A Wallingford man is under arrest after police in Branford said he pulled a knife on a store employee while attempting to leave with items he allegedly tried to shoplift.
Police are charging Joe K Cottes-Lopez, 31, following the incident Saturday night at a Stop and Shop.
Cottes-Lopez was stopped as he attempted to leave with a carriage full of items, police said.
That's when Cottes-Lopez swung the knife in the direction of the employee, according to investigators.
The suspect engaged police in a brief foot pursuit before he was captured.
The knife was found in a wooded area a short distance away, police said.
Cottes-Lopez is charged with robbery, threatening, reckless endangerment, and larceny.
