NEWINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Newington Police make three arrests in suspicious vehicle investigation.
Police patrolling residential areas of town around 3:29 a.m. Tuesday morning spotted a suspicious vehicle was loitering in a condo complex.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the vehicle failed to stop and fled the area. Officers returned to the parking lot to check for signs of car break-ins and observed the suspicious vehicle had returned to the parking lot. Officers were then able to stop the vehicle.
Three people were inside the car: Michael Torres, 24, of West Hartford; Chasity Casiano, 37, of Manchester; Chereca Cruz, 43, of West Hartford.
Police say Torres physically resisted officers, at which time officers found a handgun.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle narcotics to include crack cocaine were located.
All three occupants were arrested.
Torres is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, illegal alteration of firearm identification, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, interfering with an officer, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of a controlled substance (first offense), and second-degree failure to appear.
Bond for Torres is $135,000.
Casiano is charged with two counts of first-degree failure to appear, second-degree failure to appear, possession of a controlled substance (first offense), use of drug paraphernalia, and criminal impersonation.
Bond for Casiano is $105,000.
Cruz is charged with possession of a controlled substance (first offense), use of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, improper use of marker plates, engaging police in a pursuit, and illegal operation while license/registration is suspended.
Bond is $15,000.
