BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Bridgeport Police are investigating a shooting that injured one man on the University of Bridgeport campus Tuesday evening.

It is not being considered an active shooter situation. Police are describing it as a shooting between two young men who know each other.

Those two men were visiting the campus, which the University says is open to the public.

The shots fired reported around 6:15 p.m. happened at one of the campus' dining halls.

The campus was placed into lockdown mode while police investigated the shooting and searched for the shooter, who was believed to have fled the campus.

Police anticipated extra patrols on campus to ensure safety for the community.

There hasn't been an update as of 6 a.m. Tuesday on whether an arrest has been made.

The victim injured in the shooting is receiving hospital care for non-life-threatening injuries.
