Police seek suspects in May 6th incident

MERIDEN, CONN (WTIC Radio)-Police have arrested two and more are expected for a parking lot take over and subsequent riot in early May.

It happened May 6th at 11:15 PM in the parking lot of the Lowe's on East Main Street.


According to police, a large gathering raced cars, squealed tires, played loud music and used fireworks.
The gathering disregarded police commands to disperse. At one point they climbed and danced on the hood of the cruiser, causing in excess of $1,800 in damage.

Responding officers were unable to get to the officer in the cruiser.  The crowd taunted the officer and at one point walked back the cruiser.

Police said one of the suspects in the crowd was seen reaching in his pocket for what they believe is  a weapon.

One of those arrested faces similar charges for an incident in Waterbury.

The two suspects face a variety of charges including criminal mischief and riot in the first degree.

Meriden police were joined at the press conference by State Police and officers from Naugatuck and Waterbury.

Tolland also experienced a recent incident.

State Police said as many as five hundred Connecticut residents have participated in all of the events.

Police said they're overwhelmed and outmanned but add the suspects will be hunted down and incarcerated.
