NORWICH, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Pope Francis selects a new Bishop for the Diocese of Nowich.

He's appointing Bishop-elect Richard F. Reidy as the sixth Bishop of Norwich.

The announcement came Wednesday from Rome.

He would replace Bishop emeritus Michael Cote, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 75 in 2024.

Bishop-elect Reidy comes to Norwich from the Diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts, where he served in various pastoral and administrative roles, most recently as Vicor General.

The Diocese of Norwich has faced some trouble in recent years, announcing last year a plan to reorganize after multiple lawsuits alleged abuse at the Mount Saint John School in Deep River over the span of 20 years.
