With a weekend nor'easter expected to hit the state, Eversource is preparing to respond to any potential problems that may arise due to the weather.
“We’ve been monitoring this storm for the last several days, holding storm-team planning conference calls and preparing accordingly,” said Eversource President of Connecticut Electric Operations Don Scacco.
The utility expects to have "hundreds of line and tree crews" on hand to deal with power lines brought down by limbs as a result of high winds.
The National Weather Service says the slow-moving storm will drop rain from Friday night through Sunday night, with heavy winds beginning Friday afternoon gusting to 35 mph, then gusting to 45 mph Friday night.
Eversource officials also advise homeowners to stay out of flooded basements, as wet electrical wiring should be deemed hazardous and live.
In addition, residents are urged to have an emergency kit containing water, non-perishable food, first aid materials, batteries, a flashlight and portable radio.
Also, people are advised to have an emergency plan in place, keep in touch with family and check on elderly neighbors as the situation warrants.
