(East Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - A report released by the Department of Criminal Justice finds two East Hartford police officers were justified in their use of deadly force in an incident from last year.

The report by the Windham judicial district says Officers Andre Lyew and Daniel Zaleski feared their lives were in danger on September 5, 2019.

Police were dispatched that evening to the home of 43-year-old John Carras on Skyline Drive that night on a domestic violence call.

Lyew entered the home first to find Carras, a Berlin school psychologist, strangling his wife.

The officer ordered Carras off the victim.

A taser was deployed when Carras became violent as Zaleski attempted to cuff the suspect.

Carras was shot five times by Zaleski, who had attempted to cuff Carras after he assaulted the two officers.

The report states Carras said "thank you" to Lyew after he was shot.
