Hamden, Conn./WTIC Radio - Democratic Governor Ned Lamont has a 20-point lead over GOP state Senator Ryan Fazio in the latest Quinnipiac University survey in the Connecticut gubernatorial race.

At 58-to-38-percent, poll director Doug Schwartz says the poll is largely unchanged from the September results.Fazio does poll better among independents where the deficit is nine-percent.

Schwartz said if Fazio is to make any headway in the homestretch of the campaign, he'll need that group of independents to vote for him.

"That's the key swing group that he would need in order to have a chance," said Schwartz.

He said "right now, his message isn't resonating with independents."

A total of 1,225 respondents were surveyed in the poll that was conducted from October 8-12.

The poll has a margin of error of plus/minus 3.8-percentage points.
