West Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - The state Office of Inspector General has issued a report on a 2023 officer involved shooting in West Haven.

The inspector general's report says the shooting of Jovan Washington, 33, was justified.

They were called to the home on Terrace Avenue early on the morning of Decemeber 1, 2023 after the mother of a woman said Washington choked the victim.

Police told Washington to get dressed because he was under arrest.

That's when the report says Washington retrieved a gun from underneath a mattress.

A struggle ensued and an officer was wounded in the leg.

Washington was shot three times by another officer and then shot a fourth time by a third officer, after which Washington dropped his weapon.

He later died at an area hospital.

The report concludes the use of deadly force was warranted given the situation.
