GREENWICH, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Republican Connecticut State Senator Ryan Fazio announces his run for Governor in 2026.
Fazio, who has served three terms in the Senate, has become a vocal defender of the state’s “fiscal guardrails,” passed on a bipartisan basis in 2017 to limit state spending.
His campaign focuses on cost-of-living issues. In the campaign's first announcement, there's a focus on Fazio's proposal to cut taxes by $1,500 for the average family, while also working to reduce electric rates and eliminate public benefits charges.
“Under years of one-party Democrat rule in Hartford, Connecticut has become simply unaffordable,” said Fazio. “I believe our state deserves better than the 3rd-highest taxes and electricity bills in the country and jobs and opportunity leaving our state."
Fazio's current challenger on the Republican side is Westport First Selectwoman Jen Tooker, who was the first Republican to announce her gubernatorial campaign. But, it's expected outgoing New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart will soon enter the race. Stewart has surpassed $300,000 of funding in her exploratory campaign, more than 85% of her goal to announce a run for Governor.
